Isaac R. Clithero, 84

Services for Isaac Rolla Clithero of Middletown were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, the Rev. James Holt officiated with interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Musical selections were rendered by a granddaughter, Mrs. Ted (Carolyn) Peterson of St. Charles as a soloist and a duet by Mrs. George Richard Wise. Mr. Clithero 82, a retired farmer died Dec. 29 at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico. He was born March 27, 1893 near Gazette to Kinsey Whitten & Ella Steele Clithero. He was married to the former Lena Price, Dec. 24, 1914. Mrs. Clithero was a patient in Audrain Medical Center at the time of her husband's death. Mr. Clithero was a member of Vandalia United Methodist Church, being active in various phases of the church including an honorary trustee. He is survived by his wife, six children, Kenneth, Joseph P. of Vandalia, Mrs. Selma Paule, St. Louis, Carroll, Wellsville, and Louis Benny & Robert Clithero of Middletown, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth Clithero, and a sister Mrs. Riley (Minnie) McDonald of Vandalia. Casket bearers were grandsons, Don & Jerry Paule, Philip, Gale and Dale and David Clithero.

Isaac Clithero, 81

Isaac Rolla Clithero, 81, of Middletown, died Sunday, Dec. 29, at 7:30 a.m. at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico where he had been a patient since Dec. 19. Mr. Clithero had been previously hospitalized at the Medical Center Prior to Thanksgiving. Death was attributed to an apparent stroke of paralysis. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church at 2p.m. with the Rev. James Holt, church pastor, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vandalia. Music was provided by soloist, Mrs. Ted (Carolyn) Peterson, of St. Charles, granddaughter of the deceased, and a duet by Mrs. George Pease and W. H. Steiner, accompanied by Mrs. Richard Wise. Pallbearers were grandsons, Don Paule, Jerry Paule, St. Louis; Phillip Clithero, Gale Clithero, Columbia; Dale Clithero, Jefferson City, and David Clithero, Middletown. Mr. Clithero spent his entire life in the Gazette area and had been a prominent farmer until his retirement 15 years ago, when he and his wife, who survives, moved to Middletown. He was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church and held various offices in the church during his faithful service. At the time of his death he was an honorary trustee. Mr. Clithero was born March 27, 1893, near Gazette, the son of Kinsey Whitten and Ella Steele Clithero. He was married to the former Lena Price of Gazette, Dec. 24, 1914, and they became the parents of six children, all of whom survive. They are Kenneth, Route 1, Vandalia; Mrs. Selma Paule, St. Louis; Joseph P., Route 1, Vandalia; Carroll, Wellsville; Louis B., and Robert, both of Middletown Route. Other survivors include five daughters -in-law, 14 grandchildren, a brother, Kinsey Clithero, and sister, Mrs. Riley (Minnie) McDonald, Vandalia. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters who died in infancy, a son-in-law and two grandchildren. Mrs. Isaac Clithero was admitted to Audrain Medical Center Dec. 21 and was a patient there at the time of her husband's death. She returned home Monday.
