Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Frances Cornish Benning, 94 of Chesterfield, formerly of Louisiana, were held at 2 P.M. Monday, January 26, 1998 at the First Christian Church in Louisiana. Music was provided by Mrs. Marilyn Johnson on the organ. The Rev. Milton "Duke" Duvall, III of St. Louis, officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Louisiana.

Mrs. Benning died Friday, January 23, 1998 at Delmar Gardens on the Greens Nursing Home in Chesterfield.

She was born April 21, 1903 to John and Julia Buckner Cornish at Turpin in Pike County, the youngest of five children. She married Olaus Davis Benning, May 26, 1926 at Hannibal. He preceded her in death.

She was preceded in death by a son, Olaus Patri Benning, II; two brothers, Stephen Cornish and Thomas Cornish; and two sisters, Mildred Cornish Blakey and Susan Cornish Sims.

She is survived by a son, John Davis Benning of Louisiana; three grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Mrs. Benning attended the rural school at Ramsey Creek during her formative years. She graduated valedictorian from Louisiana High School in 1920. She attended William Woods College, at that time a two-year all-womans school at Fulton and in 1924 received he degree in journalism from the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Mrs. Benning was a member of the Delta Delta Sorority while at the University, Literature and writing always remained a major interest during her life. She had many short storied and magazine articles published. During her years in Louisiana some of the activities she enjoyed were the Century Club, Chapter GH PEO Sisterhood; The American Association of University Women, Great Books and the Missouri Writers Guild. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Louisiana.

Pallbearers were Raymond Miller, Jr., Rex Hipes, Daney Robinson, Jerry Narramore, James Keim and James A. Scott. Visitation was held from 2-4 P.M. Sunday at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana.
