Bertha Harelson Price

Obituary from The Bowling Green Times
Bowling Green, MO
August 24, 1956:

Mrs. Joe C. Price died here Friday.

Mrs. Bertha Harelson Price, highly respected Bowling Green lady, beloved wife of Joe C. Price closed her eyes, peacefully in eternal sleep at her home here early Friday morning, August 24, following an illness of some duration, at the age of 67 years, five months and 27 days. Mrs. Price was born February 25, 1889 in Siloam Springs, Ill, a daughter of W. T. and Cerena Harelson, and grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of her birth, and was a graduate of Louisiana High School. On September 8, 1909, she was united in marriage, in Hannibal, to Joe C. Price, of this city, and to that union three sons were born, all of whom, with Mr. Price, survive to mourn the passing of a faithful wife and an understanding mother. The sons are Harold of Fairfield, Mo., Edwin of Columbus, Ohio, and Lt. Donald Price of the U.S. Air Force, now stationed, with his family in Italy. Other survivors include four granddaughters and two grandsons, five sisters, Mrs. Cinda Syrcle of Barry, Ill., Mrs. Eva Williams and Mrs. Clara Lierly, both of Moberly, Mrs. Lula Fletcher of Kansas City and Mrs. Bessie Doty of Fresno, Calif, two brothers, Roy and Harvey Harelson of Phoenix, Ariz., other relatives and a host of admiring friends. Mrs. Price was a faithful and devout member of the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, having united with that congregation, with Mr. Price, on January 22, 1944, by letter from the Buffalo Presbyterian Church south of Louisiana. Since becoming a resident of Bowling Green, she had been active in church work and was president of the Ergonian Sunday School class a few years ago. Mrs. Price possessed a pleasing personality and ready smile and will be sadly missed by those who came within the scope of her refining Christian influence through the years. Her remains were in state here at Bankhead's Chapel until the hour of services which were conducted by Rev. W.G. Mitchell, her pastor, at the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, Sunday afternoon, August 26th, with interment in the Bowling Green Cemetery. Robert Henry sang, as solo selections, "Some Day We'll Understand" and "Abide With Me." Mrs. Henry was the accompanist. The casket bearers were W. B. Issman, Ogle Smith, Howard Harness, Ray Bibb, Frank Kerr and H. M. Luebrecht. The beautiful floral pieces and the many who called at the chapel to pay their respects and were in attendance at the last sad rites, were a tribute to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held. We extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
