History
On the 4th Saturday in April 1834, James Moore's ground was chosen for the first Siloam Church in this area and James Moore set aside one acre of land for this purpose. A Building of log 40 feet by 30 feet and eight logs high was built, being completed on October 6, 1835. If a cemetery was set aside with this church, no record exists. A disagreement between members of the church and James Moore came about and the keys to the building were turned over to James Moore on the 4th Saturday in February in 1842. The next sight chosen for a new church was on Elisha P. Lewis's land on the 4th Saturday in March in 1843. A building was erected and a cemetery was also located on this land, but both building and cemetery have been destroyed, with only one stone still visible where the cemetery once existed. The present place of worship was built in 1868. This building still stands today and is used at times for worship. A cemetery was started and apparently the first burial found in the records was of Mary Matilda (Culwell) Branstetter on June 30, 1872. Complete and accurate records were not kept and there are numerous unmarked graves, some of which I have not been able to identify. This was typed by R. E. Moore, June 1987 updated by Lori Smith Oct 2005.
