THOMAS HARDIN BENNING

OBIT 
Monday, December 5, 1949- T. H. Benning aged 88, died formerly on college board.

Thomas Hardin Benning, 88, 1219 Ely St., well known Hannibal resident passed away at 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning at Levering Hospital.

For a number of years, he was a member of the board of trustees of Hannibal LaGrange College and was always interested in the college and its activities. Am member of the fifth Street Baptist Church, he served on the board of trustees of the church for approximately twenty-five years, until about a year ago, when he asked to be released, because of his health. He had also served on church committees, giving untiringly of his time and efforts in their work, and was treasurer of the Agoga Sunday School Class about twenty-five years.

Mr. Benning began employment with the Du Pont plant at Ashburn, when it was established there and continued until the plant closed, a total of 43 years service. 

He was born on July 27, 1861 at Athens, Missouri, son of Levi F. and Marian Headrick Benning. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, on November 6, 1945.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Thompson of Hannibal; and Mrs. W.J. Druin of Chicago, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Jennings of Leavenworth, Ks., and Mrs. Cleo Stewart of Warrensburg; two grandchildren, Hardin F. Bathrope, New York City, N. Y., and C. F. of Chicago, Ill.,; two great-grandchildren, Doenita Bathrope of Chicago,; and Robert Benning, Bathrope of New York, N.Y.,

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday afternoon at Smith's funeral home, the Rev. E. A. Boger, Pastor of the fifth Street Baptist Church, will be in charge and burial will be at Louisiana, Missouri in the Riverview Cemetery. Friends may view the remains at the funeral home.
