J. W. Boyd was born July 10, 1847 near Clarksville, Pike county, Mo., where he was reared to manhood. He married Miss Rosalie H. Baxter Dec. 10, 1874. To them were born 9 children, five sons and four daughters. One of their children, James Edward was accidentally killed by the kick of a mule when he was nine years old. The rest of their children are still living and are as follows: John Orville of Keokuk, Iowa, Walter Alvin, Herbert C., Carl C., Mrs. Bertha B. Hunter, Mrs. Manda J. Sizemore, Mrs. Elizabeth N. Mr. Boyd professed religion and joined the Buffalo Cumberland Presbyterian church when he was some 25 years of age. He lived on his farm until he moved into Louisiana seven years since. Then he and Mrs. Boyd joined the Presbyterian church.

Nearly three years ago he had a paralytic stroke and had been confined to his bed ever since. He passed away at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 17. Funeral services were held at their home Thursday afternoon and he was buried at the Buffalo cemetery.

He is also survived by the following sisters and brother: Meizena Wood of Bowling Green, Myrtie Jewell of Vicksburg, Miss., and H. J. Boyd.

Rev. E. O. Liles conducted the funeral services. Mr. Boyd was a fine man, useful to his community in the days of his activity and will be remembered by his friends and relatives as a man who stood for right living and progressiveness. We extend sympathy to the family.
