Obituary from The Bowling Green Times
Bowling Green, MO
December 16, 1897:

Jacintha Baxter Johnson

Miss Jacintha Athwell Baxter was born in Harrison county, Kentucky, February 15th 1811; married to William Johnson in the year 1827 (sic). Professed religion and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church about that time and afterward moved to Indiana, spent a few years and then moved to Missouri in 1844 and settled in Pike county which they made their adopted home. In 1857 her husband died. There were 12 children born to this union-- 8 girls and 4 boys; 3 of the girls and two of the boys preceded the mother to the other shore. Two of the boys yet live to mourn the loss of a mother and five daughters. Samuel, the oldest boy child lives in Carroll county, Mo., and James the youngest lives in Pike county East of Bowling Green. Most of the daughters still live in their adopted county of Pike. Mrs. Johnson died at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. John W. Warner, near Oak Grove church, where she had made his (sic) home for the last few years of her life. She had been almost an invalid for several years and still not entirely helpless until the last few days of her life. Some two months ago I  visited her and found her ready and waiting for the Master's call. I learned she was still looking for Him to come and call for her when death entered with his summons. On Wednesday the first of December she grew worse and continued to sink away until Sunday morning December 4th about 2 o'clock a.m. she with the angelic boat, and with Mary and those who were at the tomb of Jesus fell in company with each other, and are now rejoicing around the throne of God forever. Her children who are weeping for the loss of an affectionate mother do not weep as those who have no hope. While their mother is gone, I thank God they know where to find her, and if faithful shall meet again. Her corpse was taken to Oak Grove church Monday December 5th, and after reading the 14th chapter of Job, by Brother Duncan, and prayer by Brother Blackwell, her body was laid away in the church yard to await the trump of God. Peace to her ashes. May God bless and take care of the sorrowing children and friends and finally take them to Himself. Sister Johnson lived a consistent Christian life from her early conversion and her membership was with the Buffalo Cumberland Presbyterian church on Buffalo creek. She was the great aunt of Brother Fry the Sunday school man of Pike county. W.M.K.G.
