Courier Post, E. A. (DRUEY) PARKS DIES IN HOSPITAL; FUNERAL SATURDAY E. A. (Druey) Parks , 225 N. Maple Ave. passed away at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon in St. Elizabeth Hospital. The body was removed to the Schwartz Funeral Home where friends may call after 3 p.m. today until 1 p.m. Satuday. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Rev. A. Chandler Crawford, rector will officiate and interment will be in Riverview Cemetery at Louisiana. Mr. Parks was born April 7, 1872 in Louisiana, a son of the late Edgar Alonzo and Emma McCormick Parks. He graduated from Louisiana High school as salutatorian of the class of 1890. He became a partner in the Parks Music Co. of Louisiana, Hannibel and Mexico in 1890 owned and operated the Parks Poster Advertising Co. for 50 years and owned and oeprated the Parks Theatres showing attractions in 10 towns in the surrounding area. His activities in Louisiana include the following: First president of the Chamber of Commerce, first exalted ruler of the Elks, member of Masonic Lodge No. 92 of Pike County for 66 years; second Generalisimo Commander Excalibar; second commander of Knights Templar, board of directors, Boy Scouts and county chairman of Liberty Loan Drive; secretary and charter memeber of Louisiana Building and Loan; vice preseident of Tri-State Vicotr Talking Machines of Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois. In 1917 Mr. Parks moved here to manage his Hannibal store. His services here included: President of Hannibal Chamber of Commerce, president of YMCA, chairman of Marion County Red Cross for 19 years, president and charter memeber of Hannibal Rotary Club. He was superintendent of the Trinity Episcopal Church School for nine years; also served on the Church Vestry. Mr. Parks gave the introductory speech for his friend, Champ Clark, when the latter ran for nomination for the presidency. In 1900, Mr. Parks was married to Mamie Dent, who preceded him in death. Children born of this marriage are Mrs. Charline Averill Renick of Alta Dena, Calif., Edgar A. Parks, Jr. of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. Paul (Rosemary) McCaughey, who preceded him in death. Mr. Parks was married in 1923 to Ethel Mundy Primm, who survives with three children born of this marriage: Capt. D. P. Parks of Dayton O., Jack Parks of Prairie Village, Kan., and Mrs. Paul (Pat) Aegerter of Hannibal. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. |
