Sarah Wells

Died, at the residence of her father, Joseph Roberts, in Pike county, Mo., on the 28th of Jan. Mrs. Sarah Wells, consort of Geo. N. Wells, of Lincoln county. There are no calamities to which mankind are exposed, more torturing and agonizing than the loss of those who we have fondly loved. The heart of the devoted husband must mourn long and bitterly when all that made this life bright, is snatched away by the relentless hand of death and consigned to the ____ of the wind. But we are consolded by the knowledge that if goodness of heart, amiability of character & an undyging faith and practice of the christian religion, are any guarantee (and surely they are) for heaven, that she whom we mourn has been transported from a world of trials and difficulties to enjoy the rich inheritance of the skies "where the happy are at rest."

A laboured attempt to portray the virtues of her character, would be like a bitter mockery of holy things. Let her husband, her kindred, and a large and extensive circle of friends who now mourn her irreparable loss, rememberthat "moderate lamentation is the right of the dead -- excessive wrong to the living" -- that their loss is her gain, and that nothing but unkindness would ever prompt them to desire her return to this unfeeling world.
