Tombs Family Cemetery
Bowling Green, MO
This family cemetery is located on Rd 466, in the SW 1/4 of Sec.
32-T.53N.R.3W. in Pike Co., MO, southwest of Bowling Green. It was
originally on land belonging to the early Tombs settlers in that area.
The earliest settler being David Tombs, who came in 1818, then later
passed on to his son David L. Tombs. Finally Samuel Alexander Tombs, who
died in 1904 and was a son of David L. Tombs, owned it.
The cemetery was a small plot on a hill, not far from the road in a little grove of trees. In 1965, when it was visited by Frank P. Tombs, a grandson of Samuel A. Tombs, and Frank's wife Florence, of Cloves, California, and Marie Tombs Baker, a granddaughter of Samuel, and her husband Dennis Baker, of Pismo, California, the following tombstones were recorded:
In Oct. 2004, Shirley Tombs Jennings, of Sanger, CA, a daughter of Frank P. Tombs, and her son Bruce Jennings of Oregon visited this site. At this time the cemetery only had fragments of stones left. |
